Here's an Awesome Update for Chronicle and Star Wars fans! Josh Trank, who directed the fantastic indy superhero film, Chronicle, and is about to start work on his next project, FOX's Fantastic Four reboot, has signed on to direct the second standalone Star Wars film!
It wasn't long ago that Gareth Edwards, director of this years hit monster flick, Godzilla, was announced as the Director for the first planned Star Wars standalone film, and like that announcement, this one comes with no details about plot, setting or even characters. Speculation still abounds, however, with Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda still viewed as the most likely. As far as we're lead to believe, Disney's plan is still to release a Star Wars film every year, alternating between series and standalone, which would mean that Trank's film would be looking at a 2018 release.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said the following: "We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX." Trank himself said, "The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."
What do you think? Are you excited to see standalone Star Wars films amidst the regular series stuff? Do you think Trank has what it takes to helm a film within such a big franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
Here's an Awesome Update for Mortal Kombat fans! Warner Bros and NetherRealm have released a first look at the next instalment in the MK franchise, Mortal Kombat X, with this cinematic trailer!
Both studios have said outright that the trailer is not in-game footage and acts solely as a reveal for the game that will be available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The games announcement comes a week ahead of E3, where more details on the game will be revealed.
The only news we have regarding MKX is that the characters will no longer be restricted to one set of moves and players will be able to choose between a variety of different move sets when selecting their character. The studio had this to say: "MKX launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy." and that "Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together."

Here's an Awesome Update for Daredevil, Marvel and Charlie Cox fans! The British actor, best known for his roles in Stardust and Boardwalk Empire, has been cast in as Matt Murdoch aka Daredevil in the upcoming Netflix series from Marvel!

Each series is going to be 13 episodes long. The synopsis for Daredevil reads: "Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City."
Here's an Awesome Update for Django Unchained and Quentin Tarantino fans! The director revealed at Cannes Film Festival that he has "about 90 minutes’ worth of material with Django [that] hasn’t been seen" and that he'd be interested in releasing a four part mini-series using it.
The mini-series would essentially be an extended cut of the film, with a complete length of four hours. As to why he is interested in releasing it as a mini-series, rather than a Director's/Extended Cut film release, "People roll their eyes at a four-hour movie. But a four-hour miniseries that they like, then they are dying to watch all four parts. That's how I thought it could work." He also added that he would prefer the series on cable, which is no surprise given the graphic nature of the film.
What do you think? Would you love to see Django as a four hour mini-series? Or would you just prefer an extended cut film release? Let us know in the comments below!
Here's an Awesome Update for Godzilla and Star Wars fans! Gareth Edwards, director of the just-released smash hit return of the giant radioactive Godzilla, has signed on to direct the first of several upcoming stand alone Star Wars films!

There is no official word on which characters will be getting their own spin-offs, nor which character Gareth Edwards will be tackling, but rumours and speculation abound pointing to Boba Fett, Han Solo and Yoda all as likely candidates. Edwards said, "Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life -- join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm,” in a press release. The film's screenplay will be penned by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli, various episodes of The Walking Dead game) and will be released on December 16th, 2016.
Godzilla hit cinemas last weekend, opening up with an incredibly impressive £93.2 million weekend - $1.8 million shy of this years current top dog, Captain America The Winter Soldier - and received widespread critical acclaim.
